Ten Chimneys, a new play by Jeffrey Hatcher, opens October 3 at off-Broadway’s Theatre at St. Clements. Based on the backstage lives of legendary Broadway actors Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, the Peccadillo Theater Company production stars real-life spouses Byron Jennings and Carolyn McCormick as the famous stage couple.
Set at the couple’s Wisconsin estate in 1938, Ten Chimneys is a behind-the-scenes look at rehearsals for an upcoming production of Chekhov’s The Seagull. As love triangles and family dysfunction arise, the production becomes a true-to-life plot involving a young actress named Uta Hagen.
In addition to Jennings and McCormick, Ten Chimneys features Lucy Martin as Lunt’s mother Hattie, and Michael McCarty as Sydney Greenstreet. The production also features Charlotte Booker, Julia Bray and John Wernke.
